Living in your “home town” tends to make you forget about all of the great things there are to do. While I can sit and think of all of the new places I can go, all of the new adventures we can see, I forget that Singapore itself has great attractions, and some of the best are even Free! I am a pretty big fan of the Singapore Zoo.

The Night Safari is one attraction that no travelling family should miss in Singapore. Walking through the paths, seeing the nocturnal animals in a more realistic environment. is a great evening and the tram ride is a winner for kids of all ages. But, when you are on a budget and are short on time, one of the best “free” activities is the fire eating show held at Bongo Burgers outside of the entry to the Night Safari. Okay, don’t nitpick, the transportation costs to get there and if you eat dinner that costs as well, but technically the show is free, and awesome.

The show, starts with a display of traditional Dayak (from Borneo) dances and cultural displays, including a fun skit with ballons dart guns and usually a guest from the audience. (Just say, you have been warned, tall men in front and pretty girls are frequently chosen to join the show!) After a bit of fun, it is time for the fire-eating and let me tell you the show is fantastic!

My Monday Dream is to go back with the kids and enjoy the show again some weeknight when the tourist numbers are down and then try out some of the food at the other restaurants located near the zoo.

That looks fabulous. I’ll definitely be taking my kids there. Loving all your tips!
Amy, let us know when you come and we would be happy to meet up and join you, it is always a blast!
Ho Hum, just you’re everyday round of fire eating right? I know what you mean though about not always taking advantage of the stuff that’s close by. My kids would think this was just about the coolest (visiting the zoo at night would definitely be up there too).
Mara, Yeah, just your everyday fire eaters
That looks great. We still haven’t made it to the night safari – the kids are always too tired. Hopefully when they are a little older. Meanwhile, is that your kids in the bottom photo? They look so young.
Yup, Tracy, that is little Declan and Kiera in 2008. These are pictures from my Mom’s last trip in 2008, but the show is still the same, I just forget to bring my camera when I go each time~
