In addition to its fantastic Zoo and Night Safari, Singapore is also home to a fantastic bird park. The park, the largest of its kind in South East Asia is filled with all types of birds-native to the region and some from farther away, but every young ornithologist will love it. From Pink Flamingos (did you know they are pink from the type of Algae they eat?) to Parrots to an open air aviary that allows you to feed the Lorikeets? You can see some of the great birds of Asia, and the Emu’s of Australia. The park is really a fun way to spend a morning and the show is quite good!

My girlfriend Lisa was here last week and she took her two boys to the park and came back with great reviews. The boys loved the bird show, enjoyed the penguin exhibit and had quite a time feeding the Lorikeets. Jurong Bird Park is out of the downtown core quite a bit and it is wise to speak with your hotel to make sure you can get a taxi willing to take you out there. There are buses available as well, but it is best to simply go by cab.

Also note, that you can buy “Park Hopper” passes that are discounted to allow you admission to the Zoo, Night Safari and the Birdpark, so if you are considering more than one of these activities with the kids, the park hopper tickets are a great deal. Plus the Park Hopper Tickets are good for a month, so you don’t have to rush to see all three parks in one day.
See more posts over at Photo Friday on Delicious Baby. And thanks to Lisa for letting me use these pictures of her very cute son!

Gorgeous, colorful birds! Great shots!
Thanks Sonja, these pictures are from my girlfriend Lisa, and her point and shoot digital, which proves sometimes you don’t have to spend $$ on cameras!
Love the flamingos, Kristy. Which look more dusky, more orange than the ones they have in Africa. Where are they from?
@theodora I am not sure, I recall they are african, but let me check next time I am there!
Love the photos of the Rainbow Lorrikeets. Have you been to the bird park in KL? Wondering how the two compare.
Wow, the colors! And great factoid about the pink flamingos.
how stunning, that first photo, especially. sounds like a great pass to have. thanks!
Singapore is such a great city for kids, isn’t it. We’ve never made it to Jurong, though. Next time.
Very interesting about the pink flamingos. Now if we can only figure out why they stand on one leg…
Hum…good question @Sarah V.
@ Sohie WE love it!
@ Tracy, no we haven’t been to the KL Park. Good idea for our next trip though!
@wanderlusters Thanks, I am sort of a trivia geek so I love those factoids!
@ Wandering Educators. The passes can also be bought at the zoo or night safari as well. Great value.
Wow, cute birds! Looking for some place to add my itinerary for Singapore. Will surely visit Jurong Bird Park! Cant wait..
